On 20-21 June 2026, more than 1,250 participants are expected to set off on the legendary Manx Telecom Parish Walk, the island’s largest mass-participation sporting event. What begins as a walk soon becomes a personal journey of resilience, with competitors aiming to complete an incredible 85-mile route through all 17 parish churches of the Isle of Man within 24 hours.
๐ What Makes the Parish Walk So Special?
Unlike a traditional marathon or race, the Parish Walk is as much about mental strength as physical endurance.
- ๐๏ธ 17 Parish Churches
Participants travel through every parish on the island, with each church serving as an official checkpoint along the route. - ๐ถ 85 Miles in 24 Hours
The full course stretches approximately 85 miles (137 km), making it one of the most demanding walking events in the British Isles. - โฑ๏ธ A Challenge for Everyone
Not every participant aims for the full distance. Many walkers set personal goals by reaching specific churches or milestones along the route, making the event accessible to both experienced endurance athletes and first-time challengers. - ๐ค A True Community Event
Hundreds of volunteers, sponsors, charities, support crews, and spectators help bring the event to life. Feed stations are positioned around the island, creating an atmosphere that is as much a celebration of community as it is a sporting challenge.
๐ More Than a Century of History
The Parish Walk traces its roots back to the early 20th century, taking its current form in 1913 before being revived and developed into the modern event seen today. Over the decades, it has become a uniquely Manx tradition and one of the highlights of the island’s sporting calendar.
๐ โจ Showcasing the Isle of Man
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Parish Walk is the route itself. Participants experience a cross-section of the island’s landscapes, from historic towns and villages to coastal scenery, countryside roads, and rural parishes. It offers a unique perspective on the Isle of Man’s natural beauty and close-knit communities.
Whether participants are aiming to reach one parish, ten parishes, or all seventeen, the Parish Walk remains a powerful reminder of the determination, camaraderie, and community spirit that define the Isle of Man.
